TRAVEL TUESDAY **Traveling With Kids**
Introducing young kids to the wonder of travel is a fun, educational and exciting life lesson. The realities of the things that surround the lesson – packing, transportation, entertaining them en route and what you do when you get there, can be to put it nicely….a lot!
SET THE SCENE
From the moment you book the trip, involve your kids in the countdown. Starting with telling them about the trip.. Where you are going. How you are getting there. What you will be doing once you get there. Bring the trip to life by finding your destination on the map, buying things for the trip like a suitcase for your child or a new game/toy, which will keep them entertained while they travel.
Turn packing into a fun game by packing with your kids, selecting a versatile capsule holiday wardrobe in their suitcase.
MAKE BOARDING FUN
The build-up to the trip has gone well, so how do you keep things going smoothly to boarding on the plane.
Start by booking a window seat so your kids can see the buildings below as you take off and land. Clouds drifting by is the best silent lullaby you’ll ever have, as many a tiny traveler has drifted off to sleep while looking at clouds.
On a long haul flight, getting your kids to sleep helps to break up the journey and ensures they don’t arrive over-tired.
Get kids ready to sleep, without them even knowing it. Make sure the clothes they board in are PJs, or loose-fitting and their shoes are slip-on. If your kids have a favorite snuggle buddy toy or blanket, have it in close to hand in your carry-on luggage and give it to them as soon as you’re all seated.
LET ME ENTERTAIN YOU
Variety is the spice of life when entertaining children while traveling. Get them to select the one toy they want to take on this travel adventure. Pack card games, a camera, coloring books, stickers, crayons, games (magnetic and digital) and download music or audiobooks.
Save yourself the pain of running around an airport or resort looking for batteries and adaptors, by bringing along your own tech kit.
Chargers for digital games/tablets
PDA Spare batteries
TIMING IS EVERYTHING
There is no such thing as the family perfect trip. Traveling as a family is a total opposite of traveling solo and the first thing that goes out of the window is time. Save yourself the worry of boarding or missing planes and excursions by factoring in extra time within your travel schedule to cover you in case things go wrong.
SAVE WHERE YOU CAN
Pre-book as many things as you can. From transportation and city passes to tours, theme parks and restaurants, pre-booking can really help your budget and make things easier in terms of being able to avoid queues and getting special extras whether like additional discounts.
