TRAVEL TUESDAY * FLAWLESS TRAVEL SKIN *
Traveling frequently can play havoc with your skin, for example, traveling from a hot humid climate to a dry cold climate. The shock to your skin can produce adverse reactions by it ranging from excessive oiliness to itchy dryness.
Understanding your skin and learning to work with it doesn’t have to be a chore if you implement a travel ritual that carries you through all your destinations.
Ideally, you should get on the plane with no make-up – give your skin a rest. Plane air is notoriously dry and tends to play merry havoc with skin, so start from the inside and keep the water flowing.
If there’s one beauty must-do when you are flying either short or long-haul it’s to stay hydrated. Hydrated skin is happy skin. Oily, super shiny skin, usually means you’re dehydrated and the overproduction of oils by your skin is the reaction to it.
If you want to combat that shine, using a great primer will help. Your primer will also help make your foundation last longer and help fill minor skin imperfections.
Three primers I adore are :
Smashbox Photo Finish Primer – this lightweight gel helps to smooth your skin and blurs flaws. It shields your skin from environmental damage contains vitamin A + E
Elf Primer Mineral Infused Primer – perfectly matched to the drama that is combination skin. This primer combats excess oil while soothing dry, flaky skin. It also shrinks pores and fine lines, leaving your skin looking brightened.
Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer – this beauty slayer is an all-rounder that smoothes, hydrates and brightens skin for a lusciously dewy finish.
With ingredients like coconut water, probiotics it helps not only to hydrate your skin but seal your makeup increasingly how long it stays on and just how fabulous it looks.
Spray it mid-way through applying your foundation, so that you get the added benefits of extra moisture, easy absorption of the product ingredients and also activating the product as your fixing or setting spray.
PROTIP – SPRAY THAT FACE
To prep your skin up during a long flight and boost your hydration, don’t you dare forget to bring along your face spray and for any beauty newbies, don’t confuse a facial spray with a setting spray, which seals your foundation.
I’m crazy in love with Herbivore’s Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Spray
and whenever, I’m at Trader Joe’s, I always make sure I pick up the Rose Water Facial Toner. I keep it in the fridge for extra cooling power.
If you love the look of having an inner glow in your skin, while you are on the go then try Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector.
A good foundation is like the invisible warrior best friend you never had. If you have the kind of skin like mine that erupts suddenly literally whenever and usually before a major life event or date, invest in a foundation.
A great foundation can not only help you to camouflage a multitude of skin sins and flaws, but it also
PROTIP – LESS IS MORE
Apply less foundation than you usually would on the ground to allow your skin to breathe while you are on the plane.
THE WONDER OF CONCEALER
I found that cooler tone foundations with more red in them, tend to make me look grey, so wherever possible I choose a foundation that has more peachy tones, so my skin looks warmer and pops more.
If I can’t find this, I will compensate by finding a concealer in that peachy tone, that not only conceals my dark areas, like under my eyes, forehead and around my mouth, but that I can also use to highlight or contour the outer area of my face.
GAME SET POWDER
The finishing touch to any ‘fast face’ is setting powder. Most of the major cosmetic brands carry complimentary setting powders and these work beautifully, but if you want to up the warmth and double the staying power, you could use a translucent powder. Laura Mercier Translucent Powder – doesn’t compromise the actual color of your foundation. The powder has a glow finish, that sets your makeup for up to 12 hours of lightweight flawless protection.
