Product Review of The Away Carry-on
I went to Cuba and fell in love. No, not with the glorious weather, beautiful people and my daily adventures, no, I fell in love with my Away carry on and if loving my Away suitcase is wrong, then this diva doesn’t wanna be right !
I take my luggage very seriously as I travel so much – it has to look great (whether I’m running or strutting through an airport I want to look good) and be durable and functional. And it was with these considerations in mind that I checked out the Away luggage collection on their website.
Their site was an instant hit with me – a user-friendly hub of consisting of an easy to navigation shop section, company backstory and product knowledge that gave me all the information I needed.
What made the site even more distinctive and engaging was a wonderful meet the team section, full of lovely images of the Team Away looking super happy while on vacation.
What sealed the deal for me, was the concise, but transparent explanation of the origins of the business and their production costs, which demonstrated a genuine commitment to producing a great product at an affordable price to their customers.
All of this was enough to convince me that my travel adventures needed a new co-star to feature in them, alongside moi :0)
Ordering my ‘Bigger Carry On’ suitcase online was supremely easy, as was finding useful information like delivery times, their 100 day trial and lifetime warranty (a must for today’s busy traveller) and other general questions on their website.
As I was flying out of Fort Lauderdale, after leaving Europe, I headed to Casa Livingstone in Delray Beach and was delighted to find my Away special delivery.
Unwrapping big parcels pre-Christmas, even if you know what’s inside is still exciting and I’ll admit I couldn’t wait to get the box open. Inside I found my case was protected by a stylish duster bag.
My love affair began the moment I got my hands on my suitcase. First the colour – an Ox Blood ‘Brick’ shade – this was gorgeous and colour match perfect to the colour I’d seen on the website.
Inside my case I loved the lining embossed with the Away logo, the smart use of case space – one side for shoes & my toiletries (and no, I don’t travel light :0), the other for clothes.
In the middle of the suitcase, a compression frame insert, was like a handy extra pair of hands, that helped me ensure I managed to squeeze in everything I needed and was able to shut the case, without a struggle.
I have to give a special design shout-out, to a design extra, I haven’t seen on any other suitcases I’ve tested recently. A super useful laundry bag to store your dirty clothes in, ready for that date with the washing machine when you get back from a trip.
The hard outer case shell was oh so chic, matte, scratch resistant and easy to clean. I never ever thought I’d call a suitcase a ‘sweet ride’, but when a case glides with 360 wheels motion, this well alongside a flying diva, the airport instantly becomes a runway, not an obstacle course.
The fact that it complimented my flight outfit as well, tipped my new travel buddy, over the edge in the style stakes for me.
The TSA approved security lock was sturdy, easy to set to my chosen combination to and in terms of the overall multi-functionality of the case, it was a secure place to leave my valuables, especially as there wasn’t a safe in my Cuba casa.
The compact wall adaptor and micro-USB cord for charging my suitcase was brilliant and after a night’s charging , my suitcase was powered up and ready to be put to the test.
The ejectable battery/charging port was a lifesaver, neatly hidden behind a flip-top cover, instantly taking away the pain of charging on the go, particularly at an airport, where charging facilities are either hard to find and almost always super busy, when you do find them. I boarded the plane with both my phone and tablet fully charged.
My trip to Cuba was fabulous, but my new travel buddy made it even better !
Before I end this review, I have to mention Away customer service – talk about gold star service.
When my beloved still new suitcase was lost, then retrieved in a battered state by Air Berlin (the suitcase handle wouldn’t retract and the top flap that covered the battery had also been damaged), that I had a lump in my throat, when I contacted them, they were happy to replace my case free of charge.
How much do I love Away luggage ? If only you could only see, how wide my arms were stretched out right now !!!
